A scenic view from Khandala Point in Matheran

Green hills unfold, a vibrant hue,

Where mist descends, a misty blue.

A winding path, a hidden way,

Leading to peace, come what may.

Above lines are the perfect way to describe the beauty of Khandala Point!

During my recent trip to Matheran, Khandala Point was one of the first places I visited.  It is a scenic spot offering breathtaking views of the lush green valleys and panoramic views of Sahyadri range of mountains. Main highlights of Khandala Point are the epic Sunrise and Sunset, one of the major reason this place is crowded during Golden Hours (dawn & dusk).

Khandala Point is easily accessible from the main market/main road, with just a short trail and a couple steps descent leading to the viewpoint and can also be the quick escape for those who want dramatic views but without strenuous walk.

Why Visit Khandala Point?

It is a picturesque place with a soothing breezy, peaceful silence, and panoramic views of stunning landscapes—A perfect spot to unwind and escape the hectic life and be in the moment. On a clear day you can see the Khandala Ghat from this spot, that is why this place got its name. It was a magical experience to watch the distant valley covered in mist. I spotted a few monkeys playing around.

- I would advise keeping all the munching stuff packed in the snacks bags and not feeding junk food like snacks or juices to monkeys, as it can cause health issues to them.

Things to Do一

  • Panoramic Views  of deep valley
  • Capture breathtaking landscape and notorious monkeys
  • Spotting Wildlife
  • Perfect for Quick Stop
  • Breathtaking view of Sunrise and Sunset
  • Relax and admire the beauty of nature.

Why Best Time to Visit Khandala Point?

I would highly recommend visiting in the early morning or late evening for the best view and experience. The weather was pleasant, and the valley view was mesmerizing in the soft evening light.

Matheran has a pleasant climate and can be visited all year-round, but to make the most of your trip
October - June: Cool temperature, clear sky perfect for sightseeing and relaxation.
June - September: The valley turns lush green with waterfalls and misty clouds.

How to reach Khandala Point?

Khandala Point is located near to the main market, it is one of  the most convenient viewpoint to visit. It is hardly a couple of minutes away from the main market.

Due to its scenic valley views and close proximity to the main market it is always crowded, specially during golden hours (sunrise / sunset).

There is a narrow road mostly steps leading to the point, it is easily doable. Horses/ponies are available for a more relaxed journey until a certain point and thereafter need to go by foot.

Train:
Nearest Railway Station: Nerul Station | Toy Train: Matheran Station

By Road: Drive to Dasturi Naka, thereafter vehicles are not allowed, continue on foot or take a toy train from Aman Lodge station or by e-rickshaw/horse ride/hand pulled rickshaw.
- Parking facilities are available for private vehicles. During peak season or weekends try to reach early as the parking space fills up very quickly.

💡 Wear comfortable shoes as a lot of walking and trekking through narrow path is involved to reach the viewpoint.
